Conclave, Classes and More!

Hello guys,

I know I didnt post anything for a while. Reason being- My Indolence, viral sickness, and busy with classes/events/guest lectures.

We had our Annual FMS conclave this weekend[3rd and 4th of September], and the venue was ITC Sheraton Hotel at Saket. Distinguished guests, mostly experienced professionals from the corporate were invited to deliver lectures and presentations.

I attended the event on Sunday, and mostly enjoyed it. Especially the consulting and the HR sessions. We even had a couple from Netherlands to give us some insights about the HR practices being followed across the world, and something about Phillips. I interacted with them later on, and the guy even knew about West Bengal, when I told him about my background. I was impressed by their knowledge.

I shall upload some pictures or give you the link of the facebook albums[to flaunt the business suits and sarees].

Classes are going on as usual. Some are boring, some are hectic and some force even the best of students to enter Slumber States. However, am still surviving somehow, thanks to OB and HR mainly.

Our Summer interviews will be held in 3rd week of October, and everyone here is busy preparing for the same[apart from me perhaps :P ]. In fact, I am quite sure that I am probably the least serious person here, when it comes to placements. But then again, my way of thinking is different from everyone else.

Currently, am sitting in the ITM class. Lots of things to be done, which includes HR and OB assignments, Business Communication presentation, etc. And I have nearly completed the book-'Snapshots from Hell'.

P.S.- Chetan Bhagat's new novel shall release in October this year. Its titled Revolution 2020.

P.P.S.- Neha and Mayank- What are you two doing? x-(

Batchmates

All right, acads and extra currics will continue. But friends last for a lifetime. And as always i cannot resist from doing a character cum behavorial analysis of some interesting people I have met in FMS so far. I shall only be writing about a few in this post, and about those with whom I have interacted with multiple times. I would request everyone to take this post in a light spirit. Here I Begin.

1) Shashank Prabhu- The Doc Mod. The sole doctor of our batchmate, and was my room-mate for about one month. Quite an optimistic person, decent motivator and loves inspiring others. Doesn't really like studying much[who does :P], but is involved in many things. Is definitely a big foodie and loves entertainment. Favorite pass time involves talking on the phone for hours at a stretch[okay, am exaggerating a bit over here :D]. Has many other qualities, but this is all for now.

2)Mayank Rajput- The Official Spammer of the 2013 MBA batch and one of the most chilled guys around. So chilled in fact that he doesnt think twice before dozing off in every single class[literally]. While most of us struggle to get 4-5 hours of rest, this guy manages some 9-10 hours of sleep daily, and still feels sleepy in class. Jokes apart, Mayank is a great buddy to hang out with. Always cheerful, smiling, caring about others, loves to hang out in groups. Of course he too doesnt like studying but still manages to do every task that is required. Plus like me, he is an anime cum manga fan, blogger, entrepreneur in waiting, etc etc. Keep rocking dude..\m/

3) Neha Kapoor- Dont know how to introduce her. Let me give a try. Sincere, hard working, cheerful, loves to interact with others, always enthusiastic about her work[can be anything]. She is definitely one person i can rely upon for anything. Especially when I myself am in a low mood and need some motivation [ :-/ ]. I may have even dropped out if it werent for her advice. She is definitely very focussed in what she wants to do. Though i wish that sometimes she would relax and not take things that seriously. :D

P.S.- Neha, you are still to write even one post.. x-(

4) Aastha Sharma- She is one cool dudette. Popular, witty, smart, and I can keep on adding one adjective after the other. She immediately gels with people and is incredibly helpful too. Ready to lead when required. There is no need for me to say that she will be a great manager/leader.

5) Tapish Panwar- one cool dude. You can call him hunk or stud or anything. He has 5 years of work experience yet looks as young as a fresher. He has a pretty decent personality, and always remains calm[I have yet to see him get angry even once]. He is also sincere is his work and definitely has the capacity to lead and do big. He just needs some more inspiration, thats it.

6) K.S. Preeti- Some people refer to her as the God of Ppts. Any ppt she makes is almost certain to win a prize or make a big mark. Apart from that, I feel that she is an absolute genius. Whether it be group tasks, or assignments, or even stuff such as quizzes, Preeti ji is always one step ahead. But the best part about her is that she is a great person to interact with. Incredibly helpful, ready to take any initiative and also quite caring. Such a blend of intelligence and magnanimity is rare in most persons. And she has been to Japan.. :-( :'( [jealous]

P.S.- You still havent given me the treat ;-(

7) Syed Ashraf Hussain- Arguably, one of the best speakers in our batch. And also amongst the most enthusiastic. Extremely passionate in whatever he does. Has a plethora of hobbies from reading urdu shayari to writing poems. Also has an extremely wide knowledge base. Once he starts speaking, it becomes hard for him to stop. :D An infosys person with decent work experience and a person who is very likely to become a top class manager in future.

8) Divya Gonnabathula- Perhaps the most sincere person in our class. Helps everyone starting from completing assignments, to study sessions to bus timings to everything. Divya G, as we like to call her is one heck of a person. You will feel confident every time you interact with her. It is the presence of such people in our batch that makes FMS feel what it is. All the best for the way ahead.

P.S.- Itni tareef ki, ab to treat banti hai.

And do not worry people, many more profiles yet to come. There are 220+ rocking people in our batch, each one having their own special characteristic. Lots of analysis left to do. ;-)

Updates

Yes, I know that I havent posted for quite some time, and I admit- I am guilty as charged. I am practically so tired[I think you can pretty well guess why] that I do not have time to write anything concrete. So will just give you updates in bullet points.

1) Induction is officially over. It lasted for 20 days, and was quite hectic but filled with fun activities. Seniors were quite helpful throughout. A few minor incidents here and there, but overall it was mostly a great experience.

2) We had our Induction party in a mall in Noida. Wont mention details here. Contact me personally if you want to know what happened. ;-)

3) Classes are mostly good. I havent really understood much of Finance or Managerial Economics but I have yet to start studying seriously.

4) I injured my leg and got a tetanus injection yesterday. The doctor[part time] was a beautiful girl about my age, who was also doing some course in DU. For once, I actually looked forward to getting an injection shot. :-)

5) Attended an interesting Guest Lecture yesterday. The speaker was a professor from Canada.

6) The campus here[South] is pretty good and big too. Loved exploring it during the Treasure hunt.

7) Have made quite a few good friends here. There are some amazing people both in my batch and the seniors batch too. :)

More updates later, right now I gotta sleep.

Induction

Okay the induction process is officially on its way, and its increasing pace with each passing minute. Judging by the fact that I am typing this at 2:53 am, I can safely say that I have learned to decrease my sleeping hours, the first step towards becoming a succesful manager.. ;-)

Jokes apart the last 48 hours have been fun. A bit hectic yes, but enjoyable nevertheless. Seniors have been quite helpful. To maintain the privacy of the Induction event, I shall not be saying what exactly happened but yes it was definitely something new for me. Hopefully I learned something too. :-)

Now its time for me to hit the sack, catch you all with another update later.

P.S.- Classes begin officially tomorrow :)

Accommodation and Induction

Am back with updates. I have taken accommodation in a flat near South campus along with Doc Mod Shashank. I shall be shifting there soon. Mayank has also taken a PG nearby. I expect other batchmates to follow suit.

Today was officially Day 1 of FMS, and the beginning of the 15 day Induction phase.

Basically as expected, the Dean, Chief Guest and other faculty members delivered lectures for the audience. Many seniors of the 2012 batch were present. It is worthy to mention the inauguration speech given by Professor Dhankar, dean of FMS. I found it very inspiring and motivating. To be brief, he stressed on the words- 'Go Beyond'- which means go beyond the rat race of just getting good grades and a good job. He advised us to learn as much as we can and take advantage of whatever DU has to offer. He also mentioned about getting rid of any limitations which we feel we have. Overall an excellent speech.

After that, we had an informal session with the seniors. I would not want to go into details here, in order to maintain the privacy of the students, but it was fun. We had the usual dancing, singing, acting part. Next was a mini lunch break after which the informal session was to continue.

I met many people for the first time, some of whom I had already interacted with online. To mention a few names, amongst my batchmates- Neha Kapoor, Kriti Sondhi, Ravi Manoram, Shivan Nair, Nikhil, Amandeep Singh, Ankur, etc. Of course some like Mayank, Prateek, Tapish, Abhirup etc I had met earlier. Amongst seniors, saw Manmeet Singh, Inderjeet Singh, Shakti Chittara, Arpan Srivastava, Nikhil the host, etc.

Now for the bad news. My maternal grandmother has been suffering from cancer for the past one month. The news came that her condition has severly deteriorated, hence my parents left instantly for Jamshedpur. This was a shocking and unexpected news. I had to leave instantly to take care of certain things. Hence I missed the second part of the induction. However I shall request my friends for further information and post it later.

Thinking of adding some of my friends as writers for this blog.

Campus Allocation

Am back already with an update. I have been allocated Section B, which is the South Campus[SC] section.

However, our batch shall be doing classes in North Campus for 2 days in a week. The other two batches shall be having classes at NC. I agree this sort of arrangment seems a bit weird and unexpected, and I was initially a bit sceptical, but I am sure I can work this out, along with my batchmates. :)

Classes officially start from Monday, ie 4th July, but we have our registration, etc on Friday, ie 1st July. Am excited to start. :)

As for accommodation, I shall be going to SC tonight to search for a flat/PG. Shall meet two legends from Pagalguy- the Doc Mod Shashank Prabhu and the_BMR Ranjeet Pratap Singh. :)

Thats it for now, stay tuned for more updates later.

FMS

This blog has been made for the sole purpose of describing my MBA life at FMS Delhi, for the session 2011-2013. Correction - it will not be just my life, but the life of my friends and the people I meet here. I shall be writing from a first person perspective and be rest assurred everything I post here will be completely facual, though the thoughts and judgments may be just my own. I admit I am no great writer, neither am I very consistent at writing, but I will try to give my best here. I am also aware of the fact that life at FMS will be tough and rigorous and that I may not be able to post on a regular basis. Nevertheless, whatever the situation arisis, I will keep posting updates from my side.

Note- This blog is NOT about how to get into FMS[reminds you of Chetan Bhagat from FPS?]. Neither shall I be giving any tips about cracking the FMS entrance test. However feel free to contact me for any valid reason and I shall try to reply back.

My facebook id is Facebook

My other[primary] blog: Battles Are Forever - Am not shutting it down, but will be less active there.
